Rev. Isaac Owusu-Bempah, the founder of Glorious Word Power Ministry International, has accused Inspector General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare of overseeing an attempt on his life following his September 2021 arrest.

Speaking to his congregation during a service on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2024, Owusu-Bempah claimed that masked police officers attempted to inject him with a lethal substance, which he resisted.

“Why do NPP members keep insulting me? What wrong have I done to them? You made the IGP arrest me and wanted to kill me,” he said.

“The IGP was going to inject me to death, and Nana Akufo-Addo did nothing about it. He hasn’t questioned who the officers were that came for me deep in the night.”

According to a report by Ghana Web, Owusu-Bempah alleged that eight masked officers picked him up from his church, placed him in a vehicle, and attempted to inject him with a syringe during a struggle.

“One of them sitting in front brought out a syringe and wanted to inject me. I held it tight, and the syringe broke,” he said.

The pastor added that the vehicle’s license plate was registered to a Honda Accord, which raised suspicion.

“Our search at DVLA revealed that the number belonged to an old Honda Accord,” he said.

“I am told that’s the car Dampare uses to pick people up and kill them.”

Disappointment with NPP and potential electoral impact

Owusu-Bempah expressed disappointment with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, accusing them of mistreatment during his time in custody. He said party officials, including John Boadu and Chairman Wontumi, promised action but did little to help.

“I was detained for four days, but I forgave them after their people came to beg me,” he said.

“And now, they allow their members to attack me on the radio, lying about me.”

Owusu-Bempah warned the NPP to be cautious, suggesting their treatment of him could affect the party’s chances in upcoming elections.
