NDC stages protest to pressure electoral commission

According to a report by Graphic Online, a street protest was organized by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Tuesday [September 17, 2024] as part of efforts to pressure the EC to allow an independent forensic audit of the register.

Dr. Ato Forson stated that, while Parliament was currently in recess, the NDC would ensure that the House reconvenes to deliberate on the matter if necessary in order for the forensic audit to be conducted.

“We feel the voter register should be audited. The level of tampering we’ve seen thus far makes it hard to proceed without a thorough review.

This audit will help us determine the scope of the problem and repair the system. “If we need to recall Parliament, we will,” he stated.

He also encouraged the EC to act swiftly and transparently to ensure a peaceful and credible election.

Alleged irregularities prompt calls for parliament to reconvene

He went on to describe particular difficulties in his constituency, noting considerable irregularities: “In my own constituency, we discovered the insertion of over 3,000 names to the transfer register, as well as several cases of multiple identities.

In total, the registry has grown by almost 5,000 names. This raises severe issues, and we need Parliament to act.
