Okyenhene Denounces ‘Agyapadie’ Document as Fiction

Okyenhene Refutes Allegations of Corruption and Political Scheming

by Victor Adetimilehin

The Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, has strongly condemned a circulating document titled “Agyapadie,” describing it as total fiction intended to incite hatred against the Ofori Panin household and the Okyeman. The document, which has resurfaced ahead of elections, alleges a grand scheme by the Ofori Panin Fie to exploit Ghana’s resources.

Fabricated Allegations

Addressing a council meeting of the Akyem Abuakwa State, the Okyenhene stated that the document falsely portrays the Ofori Panin Fie as orchestrating a plan to make the Okyenhene the most powerful king in Ghana if Nana Akufo-Addo won the 2016 elections. He dismissed these claims as politically motivated fabrications designed to pit the Asantes against the Akyems.

The Okyenhene explained, “The original e-fiction suggests that the Akyems planned to elevate the Okyenhene above all other kings in Ghana, but this is baseless and intended to fuel animosity.” He noted that these allegations were meant to undermine his household and have been revised and re-released periodically, particularly around election times.

The Okyenhene pointed out that the document reappeared in 2019 and 2020, with revisions accusing the Ofori Panin Fie of manipulating financial and political systems. The accusations included claims that the financial sector clean-up was part of a scheme to eliminate competition and elevate Databank. “These allegations are absurd and aimed at discrediting us,” he said.

However, he added that the document’s resurfacing was strategically timed to coincide with the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) use of the Agyapa Gold transaction as a political weapon. “The false claims that our household is involved in a grand scheme to steal the country’s wealth are simply unfounded,” the Okyenhene asserted.

Call for Truth and Accountability

The Okyenhene also addressed allegations that the distribution of national resources, including food aid, has been politicized. He argued that the government has not favored the Akyem community disproportionately and that accusations of a grand scheme are misleading. “The statistics will show that President Agyekum Kufuor’s cabinet had more Akyems than we have today,” he said.

He urged the public to seek the truth and recognize the contributions of the Ofori Panin household to Ghana’s development. “Posterity will judge Akufo-Addo and our household kindly for our efforts in nation-building,” the Okyenhene stated.

Moreover, he questioned the credibility of the claims and challenged anyone to prove that the Okyenhene has been elevated above other traditional rulers. “Have we tried to elevate Osagyefuo above any other traditional ruler in these eight years? How many visiting world leaders have been directed to Kyebi?” he asked.

In conclusion, the Okyenhene denounced the “Agyapadie” document as a diabolical scheme to malign his household and stressed the importance of truth and accountability in the political discourse.
