British Council Celebrates Best Ghanaian Students on 80th Anniversary

British Council Honors Top Achievers on 80th Anniversary

The British Council recognized and celebrated thirty-six outstanding Ghanaian students for their remarkable performance in the Cambridge International exams with a lavish ceremony. Not only was this celebration of individual academic achievement held at the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons on Liberia Road in Accra, but it also marked the 80th anniversary of the British Council’s establishment in Ghana.

Students, their proud families, and the committed teachers from the 95 British Council Partner Schools around the nation attended the colorful celebration. This event reaffirmed the British Council’s longtime dedication to promoting academic excellence and assisting successive generations of Ghanaians in realizing their dreams.

Among the attendees were the standout students who received the Star Performer Awards, signifying their exceptional academic performance. These students included Shrirang Lokesh Chandankhede from Delhi Private School International, Marie-Therese Nana Kuukua Entsua Abban from Alpha Beta Christian College, and Solange Antwi-Donkor from Merton Primary & High School.

School leaders were also recognized for their contributions to education and student success. Alexandra Kpikpi of New Nation School, Benjamin Boakye-Dankwah of British International School, and Vivian Takyi-Mensah of Dayspring International Academy received accolades for their leadership and commitment to fostering an environment conducive to learning and excellence.

Alexandra Kpikpi expressed immense pride in the achievements of the students, attributing their success to the hard work and dedication of both the students and their teachers. “Their awards are a testimony to the hard work put in by the students and our teachers,” she stated, emphasizing the collective effort behind the individual accolades.

Keshav Sreedharan, the Regional Exams Director at the British Council, highlighted the broader implications of the awards. “As an organisation, we believe in the potential of Africa’s young people, and we are delighted to contribute to empowering Africa’s future leaders. These top achievers are among tomorrow’s leaders, and we are proud to honor them and the incredible support system that has guided them to this moment,” he remarked.

Doodo Nii Doodo, the Country Director for the British Council in Ghana, reflected on the significance of the event in the context of the Council’s 80-year legacy in Ghana. “This year’s awards are special because as we honor excellence among our top achievers, we are also celebrating a legacy of service to this country over 80 years,” he said. He underscored the dual celebration of student achievements and the anniversary theme, ’80 years of building connections, understanding, and trust; turning legacies and lessons into innovation and impact’.

The ceremony also served as a platform to celebrate the longstanding partnerships that have been central to the British Council’s operations. The Partner Schools community, a global network involving over 2000 educators, includes leaders of forward-thinking schools and teachers dedicated to a modern, student-centered approach to teaching. This network plays a crucial role in the Council’s efforts to foster global educational standards and opportunities for students worldwide.
