National Development Planning Commission Mourns Leader's Sudden Demise

Renowned development planner and economist Dr. Kojo Essiem Mensah-Abrampa has passed away. He died at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital on Monday, July 1, 2024, after suffering a suspected heart attack. Dr. Mensah-Abrampa was the Director General of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC).

According to sources close to the family, Dr. Mensah-Abrampa was rushed to the hospital for treatment in the early hours of Monday but was pronounced dead by the doctors. His passing has sent shockwaves through various sectors, with tributes pouring in from government, academia, and the development community. 

Dr. Mensah-Abrampa was a respected figure in development planning and economics, with 28 years of experience in the field. His contributions to Ghana’s development agenda were immense. His leadership at the NDPC was instrumental in shaping the country’s economic and development policies. 

A Distinguished Career

Dr. Mensah-Abrampa’s career was marked by a deep commitment to development and economic planning. He was also a lecturer and worked with numerous organizations, including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the World Bank. Colleagues and peers describe him as a visionary leader who was deeply committed to Ghana’s progress.

“Dr. Mensah-Abrampa’s passing is a tremendous loss to our nation. His contributions to development planning and his commitment to economic growth were unparalleled,” said a government spokesperson. 

His leadership at the NDPC saw the implementation of various strategic initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable development. Dr. Mensah-Abrampa expertise and dedication have left a lasting impact on the nation’s development landscape.

The news of Dr. Mensah-Abrampa’s death has elicited an outpouring of tributes from various quarters.
