Religious Tolerance is the Key to Ghana’s Lasting Peace – Bawumia

The foundation of Ghana’s long-lasting peace, according to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is religious tolerance. Dr. Bawumia credited the country’s unity to its dedication to interfaith cooperation while speaking as a Special Guest of Honor at the Miracle Arena for All Nations in Canada.

Dr. Bawumia stressed the importance of peace to human existence in his speech. “Life loses meaning without peace, which leads to eternal war,” he said, highlighting the desire for peace that unites people regardless of their religious beliefs. Dr. Bawumia, a prospective flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), shared his thoughts on the peaceful and stable climate in Ghana. “Among the most serene nations on the continent, Ghana is the most tranquil in West Africa. This is mostly because of our foundational principle of religious tolerance,” he explained.

He further noted the broader implications of religious tolerance on national stability. “At the heart of our peace is the understanding that we all believe in God. Recognizing that ‘unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain’ is central to our philosophy,” he remarked. This belief reinforces the notion that sustained peace is a collective effort that transcends individual religious beliefs.

Dr. Bawumia’s speech was further reinforced by personal tales from his involvement in interfaith activities, which highlight his message of religious tolerance. He has engaged in programs like Mother Teresa’s soup kitchen and is active in the Methodist Boys Brigade despite being a Muslim. These instances highlight Ghana’s profound degree of interfaith cooperation and integration.

“We are creating a peaceful, harmonious community in Ghana where people of different religious backgrounds not only coexist but also lend assistance to one another. In closing, he urged everyone in Ghana and throughout the world to make contributions to fostering a world of peace. According to Dr. Bawumia, the commitment to religious tolerance in Ghana is a model that if replicated globally, could lead to a more peaceful world.
