by Victor Adetimilehin

In a resolute speech at the annual Aboakyer Festival in Winneba, Central Region, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo affirmed his commitment to maintaining Ghana’s democratic stability. He emphasized that his administration is focused on preserving the nation’s reputation for peaceful transitions of power as the December 7 elections approach.

President Akufo-Addo proudly referenced Ghana’s global recognition for its stable democratic practices, which have positioned the nation as a beacon for investment in West Africa. He assured citizens and international observers that Ghana will not waver in its democratic commitments under his leadership. The President stressed the importance of avoiding any activities that could disrupt the nation’s peace, stating, “Our collective effort is essential for a peaceful and successful election.”

Strengthening Infrastructure and Development

Highlighting his government’s achievements, President Akufo-Addo pointed out several key development initiatives that have significantly improved living conditions across the country. He introduced Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the New Patriotic Party’s candidate for the upcoming election, urging the public to support the continuity of their development agenda.

Significant infrastructure projects like the construction of a new fish landing site in Effutu have boosted economic activities in the region. Neenyi Ghartey VII, Omanhen of the Effutu Traditional Area, praised this project for its positive impact on the local fishing industry. Additionally, the ongoing expansion of the Kasoa-Winneba Road into a dual carriageway was highlighted as a crucial development that will enhance traffic flow and safety.

The local leader also requested further government support for upgrading the Winneba Market Complex to accommodate the growing number of traders, which would further economic growth in the area.

Promoting Social Cohesion and Cultural Heritage

The festival also served as a platform for promoting unity among neighboring communities. The presence of traditional leaders from Gomoa Akyempim and Gomoa Ajumako, who joined the celebrations for the first time, was a testament to the peaceful relations fostered under President Akufo-Addo’s administration. He commended the chiefs and people of Effutu for their dedication to preserving their cultural heritage and fostering social cohesion.

Mr. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Member of Parliament for Effutu, highlighted additional government projects that have transformed the constituency. These include the construction of new senior high school buildings, a children’s hospital, and an ultra-modern Information and Communication Technology Centre, which underscore the government’s commitment to comprehensive community development. He reiterated his commitment to support all constituents, emphasizing inclusivity regardless of political affiliation.
