NPP Official Calls for Responsible Campaigning Ahead of Primaries

George Krobea Asante Emphasizes Party Unity and Issue-Based Campaigns

by Adenike Adeodun

George Krobea Asante, Deputy National Communications Director of Ghana’s governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on aspiring parliamentary candidates to engage in issue-based campaigns, keeping the party’s unity in mind. This appeal comes as the party gears up for its primaries on January 27, 2024.

Asante’s message stressed the importance of avoiding personal attacks, character assassination, and unfounded allegations. “What is said internally could be used against us in the general elections,” he remarked, urging candidates to be mindful of their public statements.

According to a report by Graphic Online, the call was made as part of a congratulatory message commending the party’s leadership and aspirants for a transparent, peaceful, and smoothly conducted vetting process. “The manner in which the process was handled is highly commendable,” Asante noted.

The NPP recently concluded a three-day vetting process on January 5, setting the stage for the primaries in constituencies with incumbent NPP MPs. This event marks the last phase of internal elections as the party prepares for the general election scheduled for December 7, 2024.

Asante’s appeal reflects the party’s focus on maintaining cohesion and presenting a united front as it approaches a crucial electoral juncture.
